Amateur Sports and Children's Events

It was King Malcolm III (1057-93) who started the Scottish Highland Games nearly a thousand years ago
at Craig Choinich by Braemar near Balmoral, in order to sort out the smartest, swiftest, strongest,
most nimble, accurate, agile and coordinated Cumbrians
with the most prowess, endurance, stamina and character from amongst his subjects!
These subjects became the King’s Royal Inner Circle of protectors and couriers when going into battle.

Competitions at Round Hill are held for adults (15+) and children (ages 5-14).
Entry fees for races and tug-o-war events are included in paid admission to the Games.
All participants must wear gate entry wristbands to compete.
Trophies, medals or other prizes may be awarded to winners of events.

Round Hill is one of the only Highland Games that encourages amateurs to try their hand
at turning a Caber, a traditional, exclusively-Scottish sporting event, and tossing the Weight Over the Bar!
Sign-up for at the Secretary's Tent before 2:00pm - Entry fee is $5.00 for each event.

All participants are required to sign a Waiver of Liability before entering any athletic event.
Participants under 18 years of age must have a parent or guardian sign the waiver.
Waiver forms can be obtained at the Secretary's Tent or at the Children's Tent.

Event start times in the Program are approximate.
Please listen to field announcements for exact start times.
